The beautiful art work by Junior Tidy Towns, on Lilliput Way celebrates the iconic Curlew today April 21st.
It is such a distinctive bird with its long bill, long legs and haunting call. The Curlew is very much part of our rich culture and heritage. Sadly, it is one of Ireland’s most threatened birds due to the loss of habitat. We are aware we have Curlew in our area. We should be proud of our diverse wildlife and do everything we can to preserve it for future generations to enjoy.
Easter Sunday 2022, Kilteevan Tidy Towns completed our celebration of Ireland’s Decade of Centenaries by installing a black granite plaque of the Irish Proclamation in Gairdín Grace, our Garden of Remembrance and Reflection, in the grounds of the Community Centre.

2022 is a very important year in the decade of Centenaries as it marks 100 years since the foundation of the State.
In 2021, we unveiled a commemoration plaque and planted seven white rose trees in memory of the seven signatories of the Irish Proclamation; Thomas J Clarke, Seán Mac Diarmada, Thomas MacDonagh, P. H. Pearse, Éamonn Ceannt, James Connolly and Joseph Plunkett. The Cherry Blossom tree represents the women who participated in the struggle for Ireland’s independence.
This Kilteevan Tidy Towns initiative is to ensure an enduring physical legacy in our community of Ireland’s struggle for independence.
At this time, we remember the people in Ukraine in their struggle for independence and we pray for peace.
