WaterWise-Intergenerational Learning in Kilteevan- A Great School Day!
5th September 2023 will be a day to remember in Kilteevan. Our WaterWise project got underway. Everyone in the community was invited to learn more about WATER.
The weather was perfect and we all got into the Water. Kilteevan NS/Junior Tidy Towns during the day and adults in the evening
This project was funded by the Local Authority Water Programme (LAWPRO).
We engaged Streamscapes (an award winning company) to support our learning.
We took water samples, used invertebrates to assess water quality, identified species. We discovered the Clooneigh River is teeming with life.
However key learning points were:
Everything is part of a cycle and everything is connected
The ecosystem in our river is very sensitive and its balance can be very easily disrupted by excess nutrients and invasive species.
Everyone who attended received Streamscapes resource booklets.
Our sincere thanks to Stephanie OToole , Rauri Maguire and Mark Boyden(Streamscapes) for this wonderful experience.
Thanks also to Conor Ruane Local Authority Water Officer for his constant support.
Thee is always some wonderful biodiversity to see on this walk.
