St Joseph’s GAA Social Initiative a Major Success

The success of lasts night's (September 18th )visit to Trad on the Prom in the Galway Bay Hotel is the talk of Kilteevan this morning. GAA Social Initiative event was organised by Saint Joseph’s club.

A group of 40 people travelled in comfort on the Club Rossie coach, ably navigated by Club Rossie volunteer driver Padraig Healy.

In his introduction Chris Kelly, Producer of the show gave a hearty Céad Míle Fáilte to the packed audience from all over the world.  He singled out the St Joseph’s Club contingent and referred to his Kilteevan connections.

Trad on the Prom celebrates the passion of Ireland’s past with a modern production of world class music, song and dance. The talent of each performer on stage was unquestionable.  In the intimate venue we saw dancers leaping, fiddle bows flying, nimble fingers playing with soul and songs delivered with such passion, tears were close.  The show was so full of versatility, energy and brilliance it is too difficult to a single out a highlight of the evening.  It was all quite simply electrifying.The Kilteevan group was captivated from start to finish at Trad on the Prom.

A very poignant moment of the show for us, was when Chris Kelly dedicated his magnificent rendition of Sean O Riada’s Míse Eire, to the memory of his uncle, the late John Mooney, Doogarymore, Kilteevan.

All in all, it was an unforgettable night’s entertainment for us in the City of the Tribes.

Thanks to Club Rossie, Padraig Healy and to Saint Joseph’s for giving all of us this wonderful opportunity.  It was a fitting event as part of the celebrations of 125th anniversary to St Joseph’s Club, Kilteevan.

Roscommon Library Archive Holds Details of Kilteevan Time Capsule.

Our Time Capsule was created and buried in Kilteevan on August 17th 2013 as part of the Gathering Ireland and to celebrate National Heritage Week in 2013.

The purpose of the time capsule was give people of Kilteevan in one hundred years time, a brief snapshot of what life was like in Kilteevan in 2013. In order to ensure the capsule of real historical value, the decision was made that the capsule would remain buried for one hundred years.

To celebrate National Heritage Week August 2014, a limestone memorial plaque was erected to mark the capsule and Kilteevan Community Development Group presented to Roscommon County Library a sealed envelope containing the following;

  • letter to the people of Kilteevan in 2113
  • list of contents and the names of the donors of each item in the capsule
  • photo of members of Kilteevan Community Development Group with the capsule just before it was buried.
  • information on the location of the capsule.

The envelope was sealed and presented to Roscommon Co Library for safe keeping for the people of Kilteevan in 2113.

When the capsule is unearthed in 99 years time, Kilteevan Community Development Group would like the contents of the capsule to be under the stewardship of the local authority of the time.
