Mattie our man
Tall and strong
Decided to reclaim the wall
Meticulous planning
The guiding light
Clement weather granting
Slowly, methodically
Drag in hand
He set about unveiling the treasure
Back bent low
With dogged determination
Dragging, dragging amounts beyond measure
The goal clear
Time not wasted
A job to be done by close of year
Painstakingly clearing away
Evident pride in tidiness
Wheeling, wheeling, no talk of displeasure
Infrequent but respectful breaks
For smiles and chats with passersby
Wall and drag exalted, no talk of aches
Gradually stone upon stone revealed
History sealed deep inside
Haunting echoes heard in fields
The wall sings of Kilteevan’s past
Daffodils concealed in waiting
To join in springtime chorus blast
Lost…..gallons of perspiration
Gained….tons of inspiration
Nothing but thoughts of admiration
