Congratulations to Mark Fox and Killian Lunt (in our photo) both of whom were National Finalists in the FarmPEAT 2022 "Love Your Wellies" Competition . Both boys attend Kilteevan National School.
There were over a thousand entries from primary and secondary schools throughout the 32 counties .
The results were announced on June 17th. by Pippa Hackett. Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine .
Well the exciting news is that the Final Overall 1st place NATIONAL WiINNER was MARK FOX for his entry titled The Boglands. Well Done Mark, what an achievement!
Kilteevan Tidy Towns is particularly pleased and proud of the fact that Mark and Killian's projects were inspired by our Cloonlarge Loop Project. Both boys used aspects of the Loop as themes for their entries. This makes us feel that all our hard work is worthwhile . We have successfully reached a younger generation and encouraged them to reflect on our natural heritage.
Mark's project was a detailed 3 dimensional diorama based of the Cloonlarge Loop, tracing its history back to the last ice age 10,000 years ago
Killian's project was based on the Turf Hopper designed by his grandfather and fabricated by his father. Killian surprised us all with his level of detail about the workings of the Hopper not to mention his cool video presentation .
Well Done to all participants in this competition.
Listen as Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity, Pippa Hackett announces te results of the 2022 "Love Your Wellies" competition.
There is exciting news for Kilteevan National School .
We are expecting the 2022 judges any day now and we are appealing to everyone in Kilteevan to be extra vigilant in relation to litter picking for the Summer months .
We have updated our Cloonlarge Loop Trail Map marking Gulliver and our Living Bog Project Radharc Loch Rí (Lough Ree View). We have also amended the Trail Map in the Cloonlarge Loop Car Park.
The other good news is that Roscommon Co Council has installed the seat for us at the end of Radharc Loch Rí Road. A welcome rest after the walk down.
A magnificent hand scrolled poem-Leisure written by WH Davies awaits you at the end of the road. Davies wrote the poem in 1911 warning that a hectic pace of life can have a detrimental effect on the human spirit. We wonder what Mr Davies would he think of the pace of life in 2022?
The first two likes of the poem read as follows
“What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?”
Take a walk on Radharc Loch Rí. Please take time to slow down, stand and stare. Make time for YOU and just let nature be your guide.
The mid-way seating will be installed in the coming weeks for your comfort and increased enjoyment. Based on feedback from trail users we are also working on improving way marking to increase confidence for the new visitors to the area.
School Summer holidays are fast approaching .We have prepared an intreresting Cloonlarge Tree Nature Hunt for children. You can download and print this leaflet for free.
