Celebrating Biodiversity Week on the Cloonlarge Loop

group-3-resizedW

e had a lovely, relaxing celebration for Biodiversity Week on the Cloonlarge Loop. The weather was good. We were delighted to welcome visitors from Co Offaly, Tulsk, Roscommon Town, and Kilteevan.

Michael Bell of Nature Learn, continues to inspire us to conserve and protect our local biodiversity. We learned about recording nature and submitting our records. We spotted bees, day flying moths, hoverflies, butterflies, dragonflies, tree creepers, dock beetles and many more.

We listened to the sweet notes of the Willow Warbler, Black Cap, Song Thrush, Wren, Robin and Gold Finch.

A moth trap was set the night before and we had the privilege of seeing beautiful nocturnal moths that we had never seen before. We have put images of six species on the poster to help participants recall the fascinating names! All records were submitted.6-photos-labelled

Our sincere thanks to Michael Bell, Nollaig Feeney Heritage Officer Roscommon Co Council and the National Parks and Wildlife Service for supporting this project.

No Mow May

no-mow-may

Native Irish wildflowers like Dandelions, Clover, and Birds-foot trefoil provide the best source of pollen and nectar for our native pollinators. By mowing less, we can give them a chance to appear naturally – no seeds needed.
