The Importance of Healthy Sustainable Roscommon

Pictured today at Healthy Sustainable Roscommon events in Gleeson’s Roscommon today;'

Kevin Fannon, Adam Lalwani and Éabha Dolan, members of Kilteevan Tidy Towns “Straws Suck” #Refuse the Straw Action Team, with Suzanne Dempsey, Environmental Officer, Roscommon County Council, Elizabeth Stobie, Plastic Free Roscommon, Senator Maura Hopkins and Julie O Donoghue, Plastic Fee Roscommon.

This was a wonderful event, very well organised with lots of useful practical yet thought provoking advice about a better Roscommon for the future.   We learned that all have to work together towards this goal.

If we all did our small share, this world could be a better place. Vincent Van Gough said "Great things are not done by impulse but a series of small things brought together".

Well done to all involved in organising this event. Don’t forget the Zero Waste Market in Gleeson’s tomorrow February 17th .

Roscommon Healthy Walk in Kilteevan

Roscommmon Walks Booklet was circulated this week. The book was developed as part of the Healthy Roscommon Plan 2018-2021. The book identifies 16 short and 2 long distance walks in Co Roscommon. Kilteevan Tidy Towns expressed delighted that the recently developed and award winning Cloonlarge Loop was selected as one of the walks in the book (Walk 12 p. 28).

The first Roscommon Healthy Walk was held February 9th 2019 on The Cloonlarge Loop in Kilteevan.  Despite Storm Eric the previous day a large crowd, ranging in age from 6- 90  turned up. All agreed waking is definitely good for our physical and mental wellbeing. Locals hightlighted the benefits of the "extra" fresh air in walking through boglands.

Feedback from walkers about  the Cloonlarge was very positive . First time visitors were very impressed with all aspects of the trail.
Kilteevan Tidy Towns would like to congratulate Roscommon Co. Council on the production of the excellent  Roscommon Walks booklet.
Thanks to Eiméar Dowd, Tourism Officer, Roscommmon Co. Council for all her hard work in producing the booklet and organising the walk.
Thanks also to Chartered Physiotherapist, Satish Baskaran for his advice and for being on hand in case we needed his expertise.
Thanks to all who organised and supported this event.
Watch out for more exciting events on the Loop in the near future.
