Willow Curlew Structure in Roscommon

Have you noticed the amazing new Curlew structure on the Boyle Road roundabout in Roscommon town? If not have a look!

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) unveiled the new Curlew structure to celebrate and raise awareness about this iconic Irish bird which sadly remains under threat.

Donegal artist, Brendan Farren was commissioned to create the structure from willow. The structure celebrates the importance of the locality for Curlew and is definitely a topic of conversation in Roscommon today.

Kilteevan is one of the few remaining places that can claim the presence of curlews.

The Curlew Conservation Programme engages with local communities, clubs, farmers and landowners and is encouraging all of us to work together to save this iconic bird. Let’s ensure future generations hear that evocative call.

Well Done NPWS, Curlew Conservation Programme, Brendan Farren and all involved in this worthwhile this project.
