How lucky are we! Another great find in our “Managed for Wildlife” area,
Today it was the amazing Silverwashed Fritillary -Fritileán geal.
This butterfly is the largest of the fritillaries found in Ireland.
The adults are powerful fliers and fly in sunny conditions or dappled sunlight frequently perching and feeding on tall flowers.
Larvae feed exclusively on Violets, primarily Common Dog-violet.
Flowers visited by adults include Bramble,Fleabane, Knapweed, Privet Ragwort, Thistles and Water Mint.
