Kilteevan is a small picturesque village five miles from Roscommon town. It is situated in the Green Heartlands Walk and Cycling Way with rich flora, fauna, boglands, rivers and lakes.

The community suffered from severe rural depopulation and decline in the past century. Despite its sad past Kilteevan has always had a high level of voluntary community involvement. Kilteevan Community Development Group is committed to promoting the social, cultural and economic development of the area and to improving the quality of life of the residents of Kilteevan. For the past ten years we have worked tirelessly to strengthen our sense of identity and pride through community development.

Through voluntary labour, local fundraising, successful funding applications and the generosity of the Elphin Diocesan Trust we have secured our own Community Centre. This Centre is the now the hub of community activity. We have managed to maintain this facility on a voluntary basis for community usage for the past ten years. We believe that the preservation of this building has undoubtedly added to the historic character of the area and is contributing economic and social benefit to the village.

We work across a range of projects to improve our community and develop real social networks. Our approach to community development is inclusive. We are currently engaged in a number of projects with other community organisations in our area for the benefit of all members of our community. In the 2011 Census, the population of Kilteevan Electoral Division was 522 people, 259 males, 263 females. This was a 17.6% rise in the population of the district since the 2006 census. This is a cause for optimism in our community and we hope the demographic increase recorded in the 2011 census strengthens our community further.

With the support of Roscommon Leader Partnership we are currently developing Kilteevan’s first Heritage Trail and Kilteevan’s first Village Enhancement Plan. We believe that these developments will lead to exciting progress into the future.Our website aims to highlight the rich heritage and the unique flora and fauna of the area and also raise awareness nationally and internationally of all that our district has to offer.
