Our Time Capsule was created and buried in Kilteevan on August 17th 2013 as part of the Gathering Ireland and to celebrate National Heritage Week in 2013.

The purpose of the time capsule was give people of Kilteevan in one hundred years time, a brief snapshot of what life was like in Kilteevan in 2013. In order to ensure the capsule of real historical value, the decision was made that the capsule would remain buried for one hundred years.

To celebrate National Heritage Week August 2014, a limestone memorial plaque was erected to mark the capsule and Kilteevan Community Development Group presented to Roscommon County Library a sealed envelope containing the following;

  • letter to the people of Kilteevan in 2113
  • list of contents and the names of the donors of each item in the capsule
  • photo of members of Kilteevan Community Development Group with the capsule just before it was buried.
  • information on the location of the capsule.

The envelope was sealed and presented to Roscommon Co Library for safe keeping for the people of Kilteevan in 2113.

When the capsule is unearthed in 99 years time, Kilteevan Community Development Group would like the contents of the capsule to be under the stewardship of the local authority of the time.
