Wall Talk

Mattie our man

Tall and strong

Decided to reclaim the wall

Meticulous planning

The guiding light

Clement weather granting

Slowly, methodically

Drag in hand

He set about unveiling the treasure

Back bent low

With dogged determination

Dragging, dragging amounts beyond measure

The goal clear

Time not wasted

A job to be done by close of year

Painstakingly clearing away

Evident pride in tidiness

Wheeling, wheeling, no talk of displeasure

Infrequent but respectful breaks

For smiles and chats with passersby

Wall and drag exalted, no talk of aches

Gradually stone upon stone revealed

History sealed deep inside

Haunting echoes heard in fields

The wall sings of Kilteevan’s past

Daffodils concealed in waiting

To join in springtime chorus blast

Lost…..gallons of perspiration

Gained….tons of inspiration

Nothing but thoughts of admiration

                                                    Anonymous , November 2014

Thank you Mattie Murphy for this MONUMENTAL contribution to your community.

St Joseph’s GAA Social Initiative a Major Success

The success of lasts night's (September 18th )visit to Trad on the Prom in the Galway Bay Hotel is the talk of Kilteevan this morning. GAA Social Initiative event was organised by Saint Joseph’s club.

A group of 40 people travelled in comfort on the Club Rossie coach, ably navigated by Club Rossie volunteer driver Padraig Healy.

In his introduction Chris Kelly, Producer of the show gave a hearty Céad Míle Fáilte to the packed audience from all over the world.  He singled out the St Joseph’s Club contingent and referred to his Kilteevan connections.

Trad on the Prom celebrates the passion of Ireland’s past with a modern production of world class music, song and dance. The talent of each performer on stage was unquestionable.  In the intimate venue we saw dancers leaping, fiddle bows flying, nimble fingers playing with soul and songs delivered with such passion, tears were close.  The show was so full of versatility, energy and brilliance it is too difficult to a single out a highlight of the evening.  It was all quite simply electrifying. The Kilteevan group was captivated from start to finish at Trad on the Prom.

A very poignant moment of the show for us, was when Chris Kelly dedicated his magnificent rendition of Sean O Riada’s Míse Eire, to the memory of his uncle, the late John Mooney, Doogarymore, Kilteevan.

All in all, it was an unforgettable night’s entertainment for us in the City of the Tribes.

Thanks to Club Rossie, Padraig Healy and to Saint Joseph’s for giving all of us this wonderful opportunity.  It was a fitting event as part of the celebrations of 125th anniversary to St Joseph’s Club, Kilteevan.

Michael Fahey Chairperson, Roscommon Co Board and Joe Davis St Joseph's at Trad on the Prom
