Making things happen for Pride of Place in Kilteevan 2015

Many of us are aware of the hard work that went into our preparation for the All Island Pride of Place competition this year. Our nomination by Roscommon Co Council to represent the county in this prestigous competition was a great boost to our community .

Kilteevan Community Development Group in co -operation with all groups and business in the community worked solidly in preparation for the visit by the adjudicators and guests from Roscommon Co Council.

Today we want to acknowledge some behind the scenes work, by silent volunteers for Pride of Place this year . This is what makes things happen in Kilteevan but this kind of hard work usually goes unnoticed.

Our new seat is securely installed on our Heritage Trail Walk/Cycle

Thanks to Liam Daly, Gerry Spellman, Joe Fox and David Gibbons for providing this welcome resting and reflection spot for walkers and cyclists.

David Gibbons and Joe Fox hard at work

The end result. Thank you all so much.

Doogarymore Wheel Relica- What a gift to Kilteevan community!

The Mooney family presented us with a magnificent replica of the Doogarymore Wheel.

Who did the work?

Malachy crafted the wheel from piece of timber 400 years old.

It was delivered to the Community Centre by Malachy, Sean, and Padraig Mooney.

It was installed by Paul Gilleran, assisted by Malachy, Sean Mooney, and Padraig Mooney

Malachy Mooney and Paul Gilleran take a one second break for a smile

Paul Gilleran spent long hours hanging all the our photographs with exact precision in the Community Centre .

A last minute emergency painting job in the foyer as expertly carried out by Joe Fox.

Barney's Stone

Barney Donlon donated a fascinating stone found in the bog to the Community Centre for Pride of Place. We hope in the near future try to discover more information on the stone.

Moving a stone a few tonnes in weight was no easy feat but working together we made it happen. It was some sight watching this arrive! Rumour has it the local photographer was slightly stressed watching the operation.

Mission Accomplished. Unfortunately, Barney missed the photo.

Our thanks to Barney Donlon, Henry Brennan. Joe Fox, David Gibbons, Sean Mooney and Gerry Spellman

Matties Wall

Mattie  Murphy, with the support of John, Cian and Cormac Dolan completed his masterpiece . As you can see in the photograph -the wall is now known as Mattie's Wall.

A big thank you to Roscommon Co. Council also for their support and hard work in securing Mattie's efforts.

Plaque on Pioneer Hall

Arising from a locally made DVD on the history of The Pioneer Hall in Kilteevan, there was a feeling in the community that the hall or "hut " as it was affectionately know, should be marked with a plaque. So we did just that.

The men involved in this project in the mid 1950's deinitely had vision, courage and pride of place.

Former Kilteevan Pioneer Hall ,  now a very fine shed was one of the historic sites visited by our Pride of Place adjudicators in 2015.

Thank you to our Tidy Towns Committee also, Kilteevan was looking wonderful and we felt very proud bringing the adjudicators on tour. Photographs of Tidy Towns changes will be published in the near future. We know our followers living away from home are waiting to see the images.

"Together we can do so much"
